Lesson 1- reading
I. Objectives:
1. Educational aim: Students should know what a farmer’s day of work is and sympathize with farmers’ work everyday.
2. Knowledge:
- General knowledge: Students know about activities on a day in the life of farmers.
- Language: Sentences and expression for describing someone’s daily routines.
- New words: Words related to a farmer’s daily work.
3. Skills: Guessing meaning in context, scanning for specific information and passage comprehension.
II. Method: Integrated, mainly communicative.

Warm up
Ask Ss some questions.
- What do you often do in the morning, Nam/ Hung…?
- Do you help your parents work in the field?
- What do farmers do in the field?
(They plough, harrow and grow rice,vegetables,breed/raise (chan)….),pump water...
OK, today we are getting to know with a farmer’s daily routines in reading.
- S1: In the morning I often do the housework, homework and cook lunch…..
- S2: I often help my parents to wash clothes...
- Yes, I (we) do.
- They grow/ rice, vegetables….

Before you read
- Ask students to use the suggestion in their books to work in pairs
- Ask and answer questions about your daily routine
- Listen to students and correct pronunciation and grammar if necessary
Ask students to look at the picture in the book
- Ask students to look at the picture in the book
Show students to know about farmers’
daily routine
* Vocabulary
- Guide and explain the new word’s meanings by using picture(s), things... and translating.
- Read, asks Ss to listen to them carefully and read up to T.
- Call Ss and listens to help them to read more perfectly.
Before you read
Look at the book, listen to the teacher and work in pairs:
*A: What time do you often get up?
B: I often get up at six
*C: What do you often do in the evening?
D: I often do my home work and watch T.V

* Vocabulary
+ Peasant (n) = farmer
+ Buffalo (n) an animal in the farm (con trâu)
E.g.: A peasant is leading a buffalo to the field.
+ Plough (v) turn up the soil (cay)
+ Harrow (v) break the soil (bua)
+ Pump water (v) : bơm nước
+ Plot of land: mot mieng dat
+ Fellow peasant (n) farmer working in the same field (dong nghiep, cung la nong dan)
+ Local tobacco: thuoc la duoc san xuat tai dia p.
+ Take a short rest (v): have a rest for short time.
+ Transplant (v) = grow rice ( cấy)
+ To be contented with sth: (adj) hai long,
thoa man
- Read after teacher.

While you read
Ask students to look through the passage and read in silence
- Help students read the passage.
- Go around and provide help if necessary.
- After reading (about 5 minutes) asks Ss to look at task 1, task 2.
+ Task 1: Multiple choice
Ask students to choose the option A, B or C that best suits the meaning of the italicised words
- Ask Ss to read quickly and stop at lines that contain the words and try to guess the closest meaning.
- Let students work individual or in groups
- Go around and provide help if necessary.
- Call on some students to read their answers. Correct and give answers
+ Task 2: Answer questions
- Ask students to answer the following questions
- Ask students look through the passages then try to answer the questions in right way
- Let them work in pairs
- Help students if necessary
(the answers in the passage)
- Call on some pairs to do their question and answer by reading their answer loudly. Correct and give answers
- (Asks Ss redo again by couples)
+ Task 3: - Note Completion
Ask students to scan the passage and make brief note about Mr Vy and Mrs Tuyet’s daily routines
- Walk round the classroom and correct mistakes
- Call representative of groups to read Mr. Vy and
