Unit 9: UNDERSEA WORLD
Lesson 1: READING

I - OBJECTIVES:
- By the end of the lesson Ss will be able to get information about some types of sea creatures and undersea life.
1. Knowledge:
- General knowledge: Enlarge knowledge about how to protect sea creatures.
- Language: New words related to some sea creatures.
2. Skills: Improve reading comprehension skill by checking True and False finding word meaning.
II/ METHODS
- Integrated, mainly communicative.
III- TEACHING AIDS: Textbook, pictures about some sea creatures, chalks.
IV - ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS: Ss may lack of vocabulary about some sea creatures.

STUDENTS` ACTIVITIES

1. Warm – up:
-Ask Ss to close their books, work in pairs, give some words are involved in sea creatures then write on the paper.
-Choose some words to write on the board.
-Ask Ss to repeat the words several times to make sure Ss pronounce the words correctly.
2. Before you read:
Task a. Match the pictures with the names of some sea creatures.
-Ask ss to look at the pictures(8 pictures, 8 words) and match the pictures with the names of some sea creatures
-Write all the new words and their meanings on the board.
- Ask Ss to give meanings
New words :
1. star fish (n) : con sao biển
2. humpback whale (n) : cá voi gù
3. sea turtle (n) : rùa biển
4. sea horse (n) :cá ngựa
5. dolphin (n) :cá heo
6. mammal (n) : loài động vật có vú
7. fascinate (v) : quyến rũ

* Checking technique :
Rub out and remember :
- Rub out all the words in English and keep their Vietnamese meaning , when all the words are rubbed , ask Ss to look at the Vietnamese meaning and recall all the English words.
- Ask Ss to work in groups of 4 or 5 and match the pictures with the names of some sea creatures.
Task b. Which of them are in danger and need to be protected now?
-Help Ss. answer the question .Then correct them.
*Whales and sea turtles need to be protected now.
- Instruct Ss to discuss, answer the question on page113 ( textbook)




3. While you read :
Set the scene: You are going to read the text about dolphins, you read it and do the following tasks.
-Read the passage once as model.
-Help sts read the passage.
-Explain the new words.

Task b : Answer the following questions
- Ask Ss to work in pairs. Read the text again and answer the questions in part b.
- Go around the class and provide help when necessary.
- Have Ss compare their answers with another pair.
- Call on some Ss to read their answers aloud in front of the class
- Give feed back and correct answers.








Task c. Find the words and expressions in the text with the following meanings.

Keep Ss in group and ask them to find the words and expressions in the text with the following meanings and write them in the space provided
Ask Ss to indicate where the words and expressions in the text.





4. After you read :
Task d
